Though she says she’s been to a couple of Baby Phat shows before, Friday marked Kat Deluna’s first major incursion into the Bryant Park tents, and she was making the most of it. She vamped at Tracy Reese in a black-and-white party dress with a white crinoline, which she flashed for an obliging crowd.
The dress was cinched with a wide black patent leather belt with gold clasps — it was so small, DeLuna says, the designer apparently had a hard time finding anyone to fit into it. (DeLuna’s a size zero, in case you’re wondering.)
DeLuna, 19, says she’s not surprised to find herself amidst all the fabulosity (to borrow a word from sensei Kimora Lee Simmons) — just that it has happened “so fast.” She says she’s an eager pupil at Fashion Week: “Everything you learn, you add to your style.” After Tracy Reese, whose collection she called “sexy but classy,” she moved on to Cynthia Rowley, changing to a blinding gold and purple sheath.
