Kate de Luna was born on November 17, 1987 in Brooklyn, New York. At the age of four she and her family moved to the Dominican Republic where her father soon abandoned her and her family, leaving the family alone and devastated. She had a somewhat tragic childhood and spent time begging for food in the streets with her sisters just to survive.
She spent her childhood listening to the sultry sounds of Aretha Franklin and Billy Holiday and her first composition, Estoy Triste, (I am sad) was truly a heart wrenching song from the very heart of a devastated child.
Her family returned to the States where her sheer will, determination and raw talent allowed her to enroll in the world renowned Performing Arts High School where she worked hard and thrived under the coaching skills of Dr. Jerry Forderhase.
At only 15 she entered a karaoke contest, sang, “I will always love you”, and earned herself first place in the competition.
Her infectious single entitled “Whine Up” with rapper Elephant Man got all of New York dancing and soon this poor girl from the streets of Bronx had a hit single and concert promoters ready to sign the new sensation, her career has been on a steady rise to the top ever since.
At just 21 years of age her career has just begun to blossom and there is still much greatness to come from this young talent. Her voice has been compared to that of Mariah Carey’s and she has been elevated to the status of the late, legendary Latin diva, Selena by her ability to prosper and succeed in times of adversity.
